In my art practice, painting most often has its seed in collage paper works.
When I use red in these images, it signals either a punctuation mark or an end point in the composition. It is what I often look at in the arrangement, or come back to contemplate.
Recent formal research study in painting has encouraged an interest in using paint as a means of erasure in collage works.
In this collage series, Monstrance, the act of erasure has been translated to "painting out" areas of paper fragments, or assimilating them into negative space, using warm and cool tints of white.
